How to Care for your Pieces

Care

Welcome to Real Fine. We are honored that one of our pieces has become part of your collection, and we hope it will be cherished for years to come.

Fine jewelry is delicate by nature and should be worn and cared for thoughtfully. Natural gemstones, vintage pieces, prongs, clasps, and delicate settings all require extra care. Please review the care recommendations below to help preserve your piece.

  • Clean Gently: For most jewelry, clean with warm water, a small amount of mild soap, and a very soft toothbrush. Rinse carefully and pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners unless we have specifically confirmed they are safe for your piece.
  • Natural Gemstones Need Extra Care: Natural gemstones we use in our pieces, including emeralds, sapphires, rubies, opals, pearls, turquoise, tanzanite, aquamarine, tourmaline, garnet, amethyst, citrine, peridot, topaz, spinel, moonstone, onyx, and jade, require gentle care. Avoid heat, harsh chemicals, ultrasonic machines, steam cleaning, sudden temperature changes, pressure, and impact unless we have specifically confirmed they are safe for your piece. When in doubt, clean only with warm water, mild soap, and a very soft brush or cloth, then make sure the piece is thoroughly dried before storing or wearing.
  • Diamonds: Diamond-only pieces may be cleaned gently at home, but avoid using chemical cleaners if your piece includes any other gemstones, enamel, pearls, vintage elements, or delicate settings.
  • Put Jewelry On Last and Take It Off First: Apply lotions, perfume, sunscreen, hairspray, makeup, and other beauty products before putting on your jewelry. Remove jewelry before washing hands, showering, sleeping, exercising, swimming, cleaning, or doing any activity that may expose the piece to moisture, chemicals, pressure, pulling, or impact.
  • Store with Care: Store each piece separately in a soft pouch, jewelry box, or fabric-lined case to prevent scratching, tangling, and impact damage.
  • Avoid Harsh Environments: Avoid chlorine, salt water, pools, hot tubs, extreme heat, humidity, and cleaning products, as these can weaken metal, damage stones, or affect finishes.
  • Skin Sensitivity: Skin reactions and sensitivities vary from person to person and can change over time due to factors such as moisture, skincare products, soaps, medications, hormones, climate, or individual body chemistry. A reaction to jewelry does not necessarily indicate an issue with the metal, and Real Fine is not responsible for individual skin sensitivities or reactions unrelated to a manufacturing defect in the piece. If irritation occurs, please stop wearing the piece, clean and thoroughly dry it, and consult a medical professional if symptoms continue.
  • Check Settings and Clasps: Prongs, clasps, links, and settings can loosen with normal wear over time. If you notice movement, rattling, snagging, bending, looseness, or a stone that appears insecure, stop wearing the piece immediately and contact us for service.
  • Professional Maintenance: We recommend having your jewelry professionally cleaned and inspected by us at least once a year. More frequent check-ups may be needed for rings, tennis bracelets, necklaces, everyday pieces, and jewelry with prongs or delicate clasps.

Please note that fine jewelry is not indestructible. Damage from improper wear, impact, chemicals, water exposure, excessive force, neglect, third-party repairs or alterations, and normal wear over time is not considered a manufacturing defect. Care recommendations are general, and each piece may require specific care depending on its stones, setting, age, and materials.

Watches

Our collection features predominantly vintage watches sourced globally. Each watch is authenticated and carefully serviced before sale; however, vintage timepieces require especially delicate handling. Unless specifically stated otherwise, please do not immerse your watch in water or expose it to moisture, steam, impact, magnets, extreme temperatures, or chemicals. We also recommend removing watches during exercise, swimming, showering, sleeping, and other physical activities. Store watches separately from other jewelry to help prevent scratches.

Your jewelry tells your story. With thoughtful care, it can continue to do so for generations. If you ever have questions about how to clean, wear, or care for your piece, please reach out to us at hello@realfinepeople.studio.
